Buying a Chess Set
Chess is a wonderful game to play. It helps the person playing develop logic and strategic thinking. If chess is a game you have a desire to play more, or learn how to play, there are a few pieces of equipment you need when you buy a chess set. You should buy something to store your chess set in and you should buy a chess clock.
Chess set storage. There are a number of items out on the market that allow for quick and easy storage of your chess set. A complete chess set includes a chess board, chess pieces, and a chess clock. Unless you have space in your home to keep a chess set permanently set up, you will need some place to store your set. The smallest and cheapest storage option is a chess bag. Chess bags are small enough to hold just the pieces, or big enough to store a rolled up vinyl chess board and all of the pieces together. A chess bag is a simple canvas bag of sturdy construction. Another storage option is a chess box. Chess boxes are good to have if you have a nicer wooden chess set. Most chess boxes are wooden with padding on the inside to protect your pieces. The more expensive chess boxes are large enough to store your chess board and pieces, and they are lined with billiard table felt.
Chess clock. The chess clock is a vital piece of chess paraphernalia if you are going to start being competitive in chess. The chess clock is placed on the side of the table between the two players. The player who is the black pieces decides which side of the table the clock will be on. In a typical chess league, players have to make 35 moves within 75 minutes with approximately 20 minutes to finish the game off. The chess clock is linked so that when one player finishes his/her move that person stops their clock and the other player’s clock starts. If a player doesn’t complete all his/her moves in the allotted time then that player loses the game. The first chess clock was used at the London International Chess Tournament in 1883. Today, however, chess clocks can be either analog or digital clocks.

Once you get your chess set having a place to store it so the pieces don’t get lost or damaged is also important. This way you will have many years of chess playing enjoyment.
